Over 300 astronauts descended upon Westminster Presbyterian Church's sanctuary Monday, August 4, eagerly anticipating their Genesis 1 Space Probe adventure (Vacation Bible School).
Each morning the astronauts lifted their voices in praise with the lyrical leadership of Music Commander Carolyn McLain. Mark Thudium egged on a rousing competitive chorus of Praise Ye the Lord – an annual favorite at VBS. The children were entranced as various costumed Bible storytellers presented the story of creation.
Throughout the day the children were led by more than 180 volunteers who instructed them through Bible verses, songs, outdoor recreation and crafts, and then refueled them with a delicious snack before returning to Mission Control (the Sanctuary).
As part of the Missions Project, an offering was collected to send to Heifer International – an organization that works to end hunger and poverty around the world by providing livestock and training to struggling communities. The children were collecting money to provide bee kits to needy families to provide income, nutrition, and farming benefits.
